Lawyers Helping Hungry Children is an all-volunteer organization.  Our dedicated board members oversee every aspect of our work and are constantly looking for new ways to expand our programs and deepen our impact. 

Meet Some of Our Board Members:

Neal Philip

Current Chairperson

Neal Philip is the current chair of the LHHC Board of Directors and a partner at the Seattle firm of Fulton & Philip, representing individuals in personal injury, employment, and insurance bad faith matters.  Neal has been on the LHHC board since 2001. In 2010 the Children’s Alliance recognized him for his efforts in the fight against child hunger by presenting him with the 2010 “Voices for Children” award.  At home on Vashon Island, Neal serves in the elected position of Fire Commissioner for Vashon Island Fire & Rescue.  He is also the father of four children who frequently claim to be hungry.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

John A. Bender

John Bender is a member of the litigation team at Ryan Swanson & Cleveland. He is a highly regarded financial services lawyer, and joined LHHC because nobody can argue that helping all children to be well fed is not a great and noble goal.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Manish Borde

Manish Borde is an associate in the Seattle office of Williams Kastner. His legal practice is focused on commercial litigation and product liability defense. Todd Carlisle

Todd Carlisle is a staff attorney with the Northwest Justice Project in Tacoma.  His practice includes Medicaid and Medicare law, Social Security law, developmental disabilities law, rights of disabled tenants, and income maintenance.  He regularly provides training and education to clients and service providers on public benefits issues and disability rights issues.  Todd has been the President of Pierce County Chapter of Lawyers Helping Hungry Children since it formed in 2009.   

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Elizabeth Hanley

Elizabeth Hanley is a Seattle attorney whose practice focuses on complex litigation, including civil rights, employment and labor, personal injury, and malpractice. She has served on the board of LHHC since 2006, including as Vice-Chair.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Kymberly Evanson

Kymberly Evanson practices appellate, constitutional and governmental law at Pacifica Law Group.  Prior to entering private practice, she served as a law clerk to the Honorable Emmet G. William Fuld

Bill Fuld is a lawyer at Liberty Mutual Insurance where his practice focuses on insurance defense, construction defect, and personal injury defense. Robert Fulton

Rob Fulton is the founding member of Fulton & Philip PLLC.  He focuses his active trial practice on employment discrimination, wrongful termination, personal injury and commercial litigation. Robert J. Gaudet, Jr.

Robert J. Gaudet, Jr. is the principal of RJ Gaudet & Associates LLC in Seattle with a branch in the Hague, the Netherlands and an address in London, England. His firm provides U.S. and U.K. legal services and works on class actions, arbitration, civil rights, European Union law, and other matters.  He served as co-chair of the American Bar Association SIL International Human Rights Committee from 2009-2011.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Brian Jennings

Brian Jennings is a partner with Perkins Coie LLP, where he practices primarily in the area of bankruptcy and restructuring.   Brian has represented companies of various sizes in Chapter 11 reorganization cases, as well as creditors, official committees and asset purchasers.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Krista Mirhoseini

Krista Mirhoseini practices defense litigation at Preg O'Donnell & Gillett, Seattle.  She has broad experience in products liability, employment, environmental and business transactions law.  Krista received her B.A. in Journalism and Spanish from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  She attended Marquette University Law School and obtained an LL.M. in Marine Affairs from the University of Washington. She has been on the Board of Directors for LHHC since 2008. Robert C. Mussehl

Robert C. Mussehl has been a Seattle Trial Lawyer for over 40 years and he’s currently practicing law with The Law Office of Robert C. Mussehl. His practice emphasizes the representation of injured persons. In 1991, he founded the Lawyers Helping Hungry Children campaign, responsible for providing more than 5 million meals, for which he received the 1997 American Institute for Public Service Jefferson Award.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Tamara Nelson

Tamara Nelson grew up in Southern California and moved to the Northwest in 1992, earning her B.A. from the University of Washington in 1994 and her J.D. from Seattle University School of Law in 1997.  She has an active litigation practice on behalf of corporate and institutional clients with Seattle firm Merrick Hofstedt & Lindsey, including employment practices liability and commercial disputes.  She is very active in community issues not only with LHHC, but also in her volunteer work with Community Legal Services Program providing pro bono legal services and as a member of the Board of Trustees for the King County Bar Association.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Lauren Sancken

Lauren Sancken is an associate at K&L Gates, LLP in Seattle. She graduated from the University of Washington School of Law in 2010 and Harvard College in 2005. She has been involved in community health work since 2005 and is passionate that by addressing the root causes of disease, one of which is childhood hunger, we are enabled to build healthy communities.  

 

 

 

Monica Torrez

Monica Torrez practices employment law at Gordon & Rees LLP.  Her practice focuses on advising and defending employers in a wide range of labor and employment matters, including claims of discrimination, retaliation, wrongful discharge, harassment, breach of contract, and wage and hour claims.  Ms. Torrez joined LHHC because eliminating childhood hunger is a cause she feels passionate about.  Ms. Torrez is newly appointed to the Board of Directors and is excited to be a part of such an influential and worthwhile organization.

 

Marla Zink

Marla Zink serves as appellate counsel for indigent parties on appeal through the not-for-profit Washington Appellate Project.  Prior to joining the Washington Appellate Project, Marla was an associate at K&L Gates and clerked for the Honorable Robert Beezer on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.  Marla joined the Board of Lawyers Helping Hungry Children to help solve local hunger issues and to encourage others to do the same.
